Knowledge
workers cannot be managed as subordinates; they are associates…
knowledge workers must know more about their job than their boss does.
Peter Drucker, Management's New Paradigms. Forbes, 5th Oct 1998
At Accelerate4 we don’t just like these ideas about company structure: we understand them.
If pure technical talent is to achieve its maximum potential then it must be free from irrelevant corporate pressures.
Our
most valuable resource is our staff creativity. As our aim is to
improve our clients’ productivity and save them money using all
available means, our people need not only to think flexibly, but also
to communicate their great ideas.
We
want our people to stay focused on creating ingenious ways of solving
problems, rather than the best way of negotiating bureaucracy.
So
we don’t do office politics. Because our people know what they’re
talking about we trust them, we listen to them, and we act upon their
know-how. They are partners within the organisation, and have an
interest in seeing the business succeed – their bonuses and
accelerators will depend on the company performance, not pointless
‘yearly evaluation targets’ set by some middle-manager.
We
don’t really do job titles. Job titles limit people into moulds. We
want adaptable folk, willing continually to improve their skills and
always looking for ways of creating ever more open architectures,
adaptable environments and reusable systems.
Even
if our staff want to be known as ‘Super Duper DevelopStars’, then
that’s fine by us. We might think they’re a bit odd, but if it makes
them happy then it works for us.
We
also try to make the working environment as comfortable as possible.
Home working is encouraged, but we still ensure effective communication
with regular meetings and web conferences. In fact we strive to keep
our people satisfied, from flexible working hours to ensuring we have
tasty sandwiches at meetings!
We
only hire super-brilliant people who want to work in a fun, challenging
environment. If this sounds like the kind of environment you’ve always
dreamed of, get in touch – we welcome speculative enquiries from
exceptional applicants!
